This reminds me of how so many editions of "Around the World in 80 Days" show a hot air balloon on the cover. Never once is there a hot air balloon in the book 😂
Agree, it is baffling that the illustrator didn't give at least a partial reading of the book prior to submitting her work. Did the editor read the book? Where was Cleary in this process? No wonder your child is "seeing red". :)

Lol. I too had strong feelings about inaccurate illustrations as a child. There are a surprising number of offenders.
